Air Conditioning season is slowly creeping up on us and we would like to share some tips and solutions to properly maintain comfort in your home. Today we will be discussing Air Conditioning Evaporator Coils and their effects on your health and health of your equipment.

You are able to see some examples of Evaporator Coils below. This is the part of your air conditioning system that is located inside your home. All of the air that circulates throughout your home passes through small fins inside this coil. When your air conditioning is running, the Evaporator Coil is cooled. When air passes through the cool fins, it dehumidifies and cools the air to be distributed throughout your home creating comfort during warm weather.

Your Evaporator Coil becomes clogged or dirty over time due to poor maintenance and filtration. The accumulation of dirt, mold, dust, skin cells, pet dander and hair can be avoided by implementing a few good habits.

(1) Be sure to change your Air Filter on time. Use a filter suitable for your systems design.
*
If you have a 1 inch thick Air Filter, use a simple pleated filter with a MERV 8 Rating or below.

*If you have a 3 - 5 inch thick Air Filter you should seek out a MERV 11 Rated or MERV 16 Rated filter that is capable of filtering out smaller particles. Keeping your air and equipment cleaner/healthier.

***MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) This rating is a value given to air filters based on their ability to filter air particles out of your home. The higher the value, the better the filtration.

(2) Have your Evaporator Coils and outdoor Condenser Coils maintained annually by your Trusted HVAC Advisors. This will increase the efficiency and quality of your equipment, Allowing it to properly cool the air and save you money.

(3) If you suffer from allergies, asthma or want to prolong the life of your equipment. An Ultra Violet (UV) Air/Evaporator Coil Sterilization system is the solution for you. Once installed, the UV Filter will clean your air and HVAC equipment 24-hours per day keeping things sanitary and disinfected.
